Goals and Blog Update August 2017

Ermagad, it’s that time again! Time to set some goals for the month ahead!

I didn’t share goals in July, but rather just gave you guys an update. Last time I wrote out my goals was June, but it was too much. This month I’m going to keep it much simpler.

What Happened in July

July was actually a pretty chill month!

I cut my hair all off! We celebrated my niece’s 9th birthday and Penelope’s 2nd! Nick and I attended our third beard competition. I also did some volunteer work for Anishnabeg Outreach.

We swam a lot, we ate a lot, we played a lot, and I worked a lot! Like, I cannot believe how fast this summer is flying by!

I really hope I can knock more items off my summer bucket list before the end of August.

August Goals

I’m actually writing this on the very first day of August. I woke up at 6:30 a.m. to drive my hubby to work as a way to start getting up earlier. And it’s working πŸ™‚

It’s hot outside.


Like most of the year in Canada, the weather this summer has been unpredictable and all over the place. It rained a lot of July, which made it easier to work indoors. I didn’t mind staying in, stuck at my desk, when I could enjoy the cool, mist just outside my window. But now that it’s hot out I can hear children playing, lawnmowers humming and cicidas buzzing.

I want to be outside.

And I will be, soon enough. But right now I have a few things to think about.

Celebrating Penelope's 2nd Birthday


I like setting goals for myself, even if I don’t reach them all the time. I find it’s easier to distinguish personal and professional goals, but from now on to keep myself less overwhelmed I’m going to try to stick to three goals at a time.

Wake Up 6:30 a.m.

So far so good! I’m on day two of this new journey.

I’m not a morning person, by nature. I like to stay in bed until I absolutely have to get up. It doesn’t matter if I have an 8 a.m. class, start work at 9 or it’s Sunday afternoon. If I have nothing planned, I want to be snuggled in my bed. It really is a curse.

But I’m going to make myself wake up at 6:30 a.m. every day this month. I will, because I have to. To motivate myself, I agreed to drive my hubby into work every day, so that I have no choice.

Eat at Home

Nick and I are trying to save up for a house. It’s not going as quickly as we would like. I told him I want to really cut back on unnecessary spending to propel our savings plan forward.

Eating out is not just making a dent in my finances, it’s just unhealthy and I don’t want to do it any more.

I’m kind of lazy though. I hate cooking. Like hate it. But I know it’s better to eat at home so I’m making more of an effort to purchase grocery store items that are healthy, but also simple to make and delicious. That includes lots of frozen veggies, building up a collection of different sauces and spices, and planning our meals out in advance.

Evening Walks

I keep trying to make myself exercise more. It ain’t happenin’ the way I want it to.

Since part of Miracle Morning, a book I just finished, includes 10 minutes of exercising, I use that time to do a morning yoga practice.

Which is why I’d like to round it out with a nice, long evening walk. Sidney and Penelope love walking after dinner, too, so this is a fun family activity as well. Win-win.

Goals and Blog Update August 2017


I’m in the process of growing my new business, SheMonster Media. I gained a few new clients last month, which has been great!

I’m also coming to the end of my summer co-op soon. Two more weeks and my hours will be complete.

Knowing I’ll be returning to school in September is both exciting and nerve wracking. I love school, but it is time consuming. Not as time consuming as working almost full-time hours, though. So while I am growing my business, I’m also keeping in mind I have school soon.

Working from home has it’s benefits though. As a student, I can work around my class schedule easier when working from home. And I can make more money, too, than I would at a different job.

VA Leads

Two of my new clients were through Horkey Handbook. They’re doing a VA Leads beta test right now, and I got in! So, what VA Leads is, is both training for virtual assistance, and sending out leads that are sourced just for us in the beta test; they can’t be found anywhere else.

I’m not sure exactly how it’s going to pan out, but knowing I already landed 2 gigs in their launch was pretty cool!

Right now I’m filling out the workbook I was sent, and I’ve already watched the two videos that have been released. This is going to launch my business forward! I know it for a fact πŸ˜‰

Blog Daily

As well as that, I’m challenging myself to blog every day for the month of August. I don’t know why, other than I just want to. I’ll probably do it again for Blogtober.

So, basically, I decided to make Cole Nemeth a lifestyle blog again now that I have my business blog, too. I want to go back to the basics, like when I first started blogging in 2012.

I want to share books and movies, outfits and projects, personal thoughts and experiences.

This is going to be fun.

Schedule Social Media

Now, having taken on more work, I need to get in the habit of scheduling blog posts and social posts in advance. Sundays are soon going to be another work day, as I plan out my content for the week.

This is going to include:

  • blogging daily on colenemeth.com
  • blogging twice a week on SheMonsterMedia.com
  • scheduling tweets for both for the week
  • scheduling pins for both for the week
  • scheduling Instagram posts for both for the week

It sounds like a lot, but it actually doesn’t take as much time as you’d think, since I’m writing most of the blog posts throughout the week, and not just on Sundays.

      It really is! Except now my evening walks are in the pitch black because winter… And I’m really digging this more laid back approach to blogging!
